What
Is New in Play Designer 2011?:
We
have spent over a year working on our next version of Play Designer
2011. The software continues to be simple to use, but we
have listened to the coaches we have met this year and delivered
some great new features in this version. If you already own
the previous version, simply e-mail us at support@wheelbarrowsoftware.com
to get a download set to you. Below are some of the new
features.
|
Capture
Your Animation in a Video File
|
|
Instead of needing the software to
play the animation, now you can save the play as a movie file so you
can watch your video on your local PC, e-mail to your team or post
to You Tube or any video sharing site.
|
|
Learning
Mode
|
|
If you
are designing a play, you can turn on learning mode and select the
players you want to highlight. This feature (when turned on)
will illuminate some players and leave the others dark. You
can teach one play in many different ways - Instead of creating 5 plays to
explain one, use learning more to switch a spotlight on certain
players. This way you can use one play and teach it in a
thousand different ways!
|
|
Video
Add-On
|
|
Just
like with our PDF and Web Playbook functionality, we are introducing
a new Video Add-On. This gives you the ability to capture many
plays at once to video. All of the processing happens in the
background so you can continue to use the designer while the videos
are being created - Then you can post them to you tube, e-mail or
archive to a DVD/CD.
|
|
Sequence
Navigator and Sequence Properties
|
|
Many
of our users have asked for a way to type more specific sequence
instructions vs. just one big description for the play. Now,
you can use our sequence navigator to add a title and description
to each
sequence. Also, using the navigator, you will be able to
flip through the play as well so you can visualize the play while
typing your sequence titles/descriptions.
|
|
More
Player Options
|
|
Each
year we make sure that all of the requests are listed to - - In
the 2011 version, you can 1) add ball fakes to your play, 2) lock
your players during editing (to ensure that they don't get moved
by accident), 3) turn on learning mode options, 4) position your
label above the player, under the player, or directly on top of
the player, and 5) you can even create your own text label to
serve as the graphic
|
|
Redesigned
Capture Functionality
|
|
When
you are capturing a playbook, you can minimize the screen - all of
the screen capture happens behind the scenes - No more cycling
through plays and PDF, Wed and Video Playbooks are produced much
faster
|
|
PDF
Enhancements / Play Preview in the Add-On
|
|
The
PDF Add-On now has an option that allows you to print play cards as
well as playbooks - - this is a great feature for those of you that
like to hold up pictures of the play in practice printed on all
different types of paper. The PDF Add-On creates the file more
efficiently / quickly as well. The PDF File
also will have a full bookmark for each play to allow for ease of
navigation when viewing the file as a PDF file. Also you can see your play in a
small window when choosing a play for the PDF add-on - This way
there doesn't have to be any guessing in case you don't remember how
the play looked.

using a menu. Simply click the active player, go to the player
properties, and everything is at your disposal. Also
represents a huge time save in play creation.

Curved
Lines and Straight Lines
|
|
Many
of you have wanted to have slightly curved lines vs. the straight
lines that have been a fixture of the product for years. We
were always able to do it, but at a huge cost in drawing - We never
wanted it to be difficult to draw lines - Now, we have finally
created a simple toggle for you to curve you straight lines to give
you the look that you want.
|
|

Video 2: Depth Chart Features (w/ Football Play Designer)
|
Depth
Charting
|
|
The 2009 play designer now allows you
to create a formation with depth charting (or without). The
depth charting feature is extremely easy to use and is part of the
core features of the Play Designer. If you purchase the Roster
Add-On, you will also be able (instead of typing the depth
chart) to simply create your roster and utilize it to build the
depth chart just by clicking on the players. The depth
charting features is available in every play you create and can be a
part of any PDF Playbook or Web Playbook you create. This has
been a feature requested for over 12 months and we have
delivered. We think you will like the results.
|
|
Roster
Add-On
|
|
A simple add-on to store one or many
rosters and save them. The roster can be sorted or group to
analysis, printed or exported to excel. Best feature (above)
is the integration with the depth charting so you can build depth
charts with a simple click of the mouse.
|
|
Active
Player Highlight
|
|
The active player will
now be highlighted in blue with a blue border. This way, you
will always now who is active!
|
|
Active
Area Action
|
|
You now will be able to
select a group of players on the field. This group will allow
you to align this group (vertically or horizontally) to the active
player. Instead of the old features where the entire play
would align, we got it right with this features. Also you will
be able to copy the active players route to the players in the
grouping. You simply click the top left and bottom right of
the range and the active area is set for alignment and route copy.
|
|
PDF
Playbook Enhancements
|
|
The
PDF Playbook has been tweaked to allow an 8 play per page playbook
& a sequence layout that allows you to see the sequence breakup
better. More info on the pdf add-on page. The add-on also now will be able to just output the
names of the play to a sheet (without any images). You can
utilize this text to format your wristbands or provide a script of
plays without the play images.
|
|
Player Instructions
|
|
You will
be able to type in instructions for each player. Better yet,
these instructions will show up on the bottom of the screen when the
active player is clicked. The best part is that the play
properties (if you make each instructions public) will be able to
take all of the instructions into the play properties - Type each
players responsibilities or instructions and it will get aggregated
for you without any work.
