Common
Questions & Answers about Using the Play Designer Series (All
Sports):
I
just bought the software - where do I start?
We like to think our software is easy to use and we usually
start providing our customers with four tips!
-
Right
click on the field to add players or use Options - Quick
Add.
-
Right
click on each player to add/edit/change options for that
player
-
Watch
our videos on our "demo & help" site to see
the software in use.
-
Read
these questions as they are common questions that
our other customers have asked.
How
do I add players to the play?
You can right click on the field and choose add players to add
one at a time. You can use the quick set (in the options
menu) to add multiple players at one time. Once you have
added players, simply drag and drop the players to where you
want them on the play.
How
do I draw a route (for any type of sport or route)?
It is very simple to draw a route - right click on the
player and left click on the type of route you
want. Then left click the points of the
route - right click to end.
Does the Base Package of the Play Designer print plays?
Yes! It has all of the editing and printing functionality
you would expect. The PDF playbook add-on is an extension
to the printing functionality of the software that allows you to
1) compile plays into a playbook, 2) create the playbook in
different formats, 3) allows you to print and share with your
coaches and team. The printing functionality of the
general software allows you to print one-play at a time.
The PDF Add-On is used by over 75% of our customers and is a
great feature.
I
just created a formation and drew a play - I don't want to have
to do that again - What do I do?
Creating formations are very easy (should take 20-30 seconds),
but why repeat your steps! You can extract a formation
from any play in your library, simply by clicking File ->
Open as Formation and the formation will instantly be on your
field. This is one of the many ways you can save time
using our software.
What
does the sequences function do / how do I use them?
The sequence function (http://sequences.wheelbarrowsoftware.com)
allows you to be as flexible as you want
with our designer. All plays can be drawn in frames using
our software. For all sports, this adds a tremendous
amount of flexibility to how your draw, and ultimately teach the
play. Simply draw you first part of the play, and just
make sure you mark somebody to start the sequence and end the
sequence with the ball (it can be the same person). Click
the arrow to start a new sequence and continue to draw.
Great for motion in football, multiple movement plays in
basketball, etc - The software can compile the play into one
picture for your playbooks (using the group icon) - and can also
show every frame split up. A great tool for creation,
drawing, teaching and learning. The are videos on our demo
and help site that show the sequence function. For
illustrations and more on sequences, please go to http://sequences.wheelbarrowsoftware.com
How Do I Show Passes / Handoffs?
In our software, you do not need to draw "passes"
or movement of the ball. Just mark the player that starts
with the ball, and then mark the player that ends. The
software is smart enough to take care of the rest! The
passes will draw from the end of the route of the
"starting" player to the end of the route of the
"ending" player.
How Do I Name the Positions?
First off, we have some positions with labels already there
- However, most of our customers are looking for complete
flexibility. Simply add a generic graphic (with no label)
to the screen, right click on the player and choose player
properties. You can add a customer label for the player
and the route (up to five characters) - type anything you would
like. Names, positions, labels, use your own vocabulary.
How Do I Save a Play and Why when I print does it ask for a
filename?
When you want to save the play, click File -> Save as or Save
(if a name already exists). This will allow you to save
and thus reopen the play in our software. It will be a
fpd, bpd, spb, lpd, or hpd file depending on which sport you are
using. This file can be opened and re-edited/change using
the designer. This is the most important command to click
to save your play. It is important to mention that your
software will print plays to PDF files. We do this so you
can send the plays to people that do not have our software and
they can see the plays. Do not confuse the PDF files with
the regular Play Designer files. You cannot reopen
these PDF file back in our software for editing, they are simply
an on screen printout that anybody with Adobe Reader (free
software) can view.
